Easter 2025 "La processione dei Battenti"
Easter Period - Spring 2025
During the period of Holy Week, in particular on Holy Thursday and Good Friday, in the villages of the Amalfi Coast, particularly in Minori, the centuries-old procession of the hooded Knockers takes place, dressed in a long white coat and surrounded by a hemp rope that in the past was used to beat each other, hence the name of "Battenti". The ceremony involves all the villages that rise from the sea to the highest settlements of the mountains overlooking the coast. The Battenti sing an ancient song, dating back to the fourteenth century. The singing lasts hours, from early morning until night.
During the night phase of the procession, throughout Minori at night the lights go out as a sign of mourning, and torches and candles are lit. The dead Christ and Our Lady of Sorrows are carried in procession. The singing roles follow the ancient canons of the Mediterranean linked to the representation of the Passion of Christ.
